Vintage Peruvian ‘Chuspa’ Coca Bag

100.00 AUD

Traditionally used to carry coca leaves in the Peruvian Andes since the time of the Inca, these exquisitely handwoven vintage alpaca wool chuspa bags were not easy to track down during my travels in Peru.
Worn around the neck, they’re an essential part of traditional coca leaf ceremonies, have historically been found in sacred offering sites of the Andes, and are a piece of wearable art that look utterly fabulous thrown over a poncho, or indeed a simple plain tee or jumper with jeans. This one is particularly soft and special, with its intricate patterning, extra-long tassels and detailed strap.
I like to use mine to carry small crystals, talismans and oils that make me feel safe and grounded on my travels. But really, some lip ointment and a cheeky iPhone would be acceptable too.
