Hand-woven Turkish Hat Band (thick)
Fairy chimney rock formations, sunrise hot air balloon rides, subterranean cities, otherworldly hikes… Turkey’s Cappadocia region was a total trip and one of my favourite destinations thus far. But the real highlight for me was discovering Galerie Ikman, a family-owned treasure trove filled with thousands of kilim rugs, pillow cases, vests, floor cushions, saddle bags and more. There I chatted to the owner Bilal for hours about life in Turkey over steaming apple tea as I pawed through his treasures, and eventually picked these stunning handwoven hat bands finished with horse hair tassels. Bilal told me they are used in villages when a couple is getting married: the husband ties them around the wife’s waist, symbolising her fidelity to him throughout their union.
You can use it as a hat band as I have, but also as a belt, a necklace, or a camera strap.
