MATHERAN, INDIA

Take a journey to the dusty red hills of Matheran Hill Station, founded by the British in the 19th century as a refuge from southern India’s intense summer heat.

Just a two-hour drive from the mayhem of Mumbai, we rode horses and hiked through forests, explored colonial mansions converted into elegant hotels, and simply soaked up the serenity and utterly majestic scenery.

Until next time, Matheran: a land that time, and most of India, happily seems to have forgotten.
