NEPALESE HOMESTAY

Most travellers pass through Panauti in a day, rushing through it on their way towards Pokhara for one gruelling trek or another.

But, since Crooked Compass was taking us on a journey to prove that there was more to Nepal than trekking and to really sink into the cultural side of Nepal, we spent two magical nights there, staying with families through Panauti Community Homestay.

This empowering women’s initiative is run for women, by women, and gave us the opportunity to experience first-hand the simple, sweet lifestyle of a Nepalese family.

I fell completely in love with ‘my’ family, the Shrestha’s, and I think you’ll see why in the second video instalment of my Nepalese adventure.

They welcomed me into their lives with an incredible amount of warmth and open-heartedness, and I learnt so much from them. From practical things like how to create delicious Nepalese dishes and how to dance to Nepalese music, to larger life lessons about the importance of community, and what really matters in life.

I miss Panauti and the Shrestha’s like mad already. But I’m so insanely grateful to have had this beautifully unique experience… And for Viber, which has been keeping me in touch with the Shrestha’s on almost a daily basis.
